Johnston Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

Johnston Pregnancy chiropractic care. Dr. Megan especially loves working with pregnant women, newborns and children. She is certified in the Webster Technique, which is specifically used in treatment of pregnant women.

As a child Dr. Megan suffered from severe allergies and did not receive life-changing chiropractic care until she was eight years old. Her hope is to help children as young as possible to insure a healthy childhood, and consequentially a healthy adulthood. Dr. Megan loves seeing significant, measurable changes in kids’ overall health.

The Pregnancy Journey

Pregnant women are not only undergoing a series of major physiological changes in order to accommodate for their babies and prepare for the birth process, but they are also undergoing extreme hormonal changes that make their ligaments and joints more lax. This is a natural process, but as it makes the spine less and less stable it increases the potential for injury, nerve irritation and interference.

The Webster Technique realigns the pelvis and relieves ligament stress to allow baby optimal room to grow and turn to prepare for the birth process. Chiropractic care helps keep Mom’s spine more stable and facilitates communication between the baby and the mother’s nervous systems. The adjustments for the mom-to-be are very gentle and specific.

Research has shown that not only does chiropractic decrease pain and discomfort during pregnancy, but it also has reduced labor times and the amount of painkillers needed during labor. Additionally, chiropractic has been found to help pregnant mothers manage common ailments, such as:

  • morning sickness and nausea
  • heartburn
  • shortness of breath
  • constipation
  • hemorrhoids
  • frequent urination

Chiropractors are taught special techniques for pregnant women and have specialized tables and pillows to ensure Mom is as comfortable as possible while she is checked and adjusted.

After Labor & Delivery

There’s no way around it – giving birth puts a mom’s body through a lot. Receiving chiropractic care after giving birth can help a new mom recover from her pain, have more energy and allow her body to adjust to the new demands. It’s also important for the baby to be checked as soon after birth as possible. Pediatric chiropractic care can help a baby recover from birth as well.
