Johnston chiropractor Dr. Megan Herrmann

Meet Dr. Megan Herrmann

As a child growing up in Southern Ohio, Dr. Megan suffered from chronic hay fever, allergies, and ear infections. She spent the first seven years of her life receiving a constant influx of antibiotics and antihistamines, and even had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Nothing, however, helped her body function optimally. Then her mother took her to a chiropractor.

From a Childhood Inspiration

It would have been impossible to predict the effect going to a chiropractor as a child had on Dr. Megan’s young life. At eight years old, Dr. Megan had her first appointment, and after a few adjustments, she recalled that everything cleared up.

I could breathe again. I was getting restful sleep and just felt better, and no longer needed allergy shots or medications.”

That experience didn’t just change her health; it changed the entire direction of her life. Chiropractic provided Dr. Megan with the relief she needed and continued to enhance her quality of life throughout high school. It also became the foundation for her desire to help children thrive.

When it came time to pursue a career, chiropractic felt like the natural choice. Dr. Megan was inspired by her chiropractor and how he had helped her reach and maintain optimal health. She earned a full-ride academic scholarship to Shawnee State University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science. Dr. Megan then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Finding Love and Knowledge at Palmer

At Palmer, Dr. Megan’s love of chiropractic and wellness truly flourished, as did her love for Dr. Eric Herrmann, whom she met in her second trimester of school. The two were inseparable throughout their education and even completed a chiropractic mission trip to Brazil together, where they worked side by side helping the people of Ilheus. Dr. Megan went on to graduate magna cum laude with her Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2014.

Dr. Megan’s greatest joy at Palmer was learning how chiropractic worked at a physiological level and developing a deeper understanding of its impact. She loved exploring the science behind chiropractic and how a properly functioning nervous system, quality nutrition, exercise, and sleep can contribute to overall well-being.

Today, Dr. Megan’s greatest passion is providing a premier level of care and guidance at Herrmann Family Chiropractic.

Helping Moms Feel Like Themselves Again

While Dr. Megan’s childhood experience first led her to chiropractic, becoming a mom gave her work an even deeper purpose.

She knows how easy it is for moms to place their own needs at the bottom of the list while caring for everyone else. Whether they are pregnant, newly postpartum, or navigating the wonderfully busy years that follow, Dr. Megan wants moms to feel heard, cared for, and more connected to themselves again.

She believes that when a mom feels supported, the whole family can thrive. That belief is what motivates her to show up each day for the women and families in her community.

Outside of the Office

Drs. Megan and Eric have two sons, Daxton and Maddox, who keep life full, fun, and wonderfully busy. The family loves spending time outdoors, traveling and dreaming up their next adventure. She may be an Ohio girl at heart, but she has happily made a life in Iowa.

When she gets a little time to herself, you’ll often find her listening to an audiobook, planning meals or experimenting with something new in the kitchen. She loves clean eating, a good meal-prep session and, perhaps most importantly, a fancy cup of coffee.

Dr. Megan also serves on the Shawnee State University Exercise Science Advisory Board and previously served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Johnston Chamber of Commerce.
