Care for Headaches and Migraines in Johnston
Frequent headaches or migraines can make it difficult to concentrate at work, enjoy time with your family, or simply get through the day comfortably. While many people think the problem starts in the head, headaches often begin in the neck and upper spine. At Herrmann Family Chiropractic, we look for what’s causing your symptoms and develop a care plan based on your individual findings.
Headaches are one of the most common reasons people visit our practice and one of the conditions we commonly care for with chiropractic treatment.
What Can Cause Headaches?
Many headaches are associated with reduced movement and tension in the neck and upper back. Subluxations, or spinal misalignments, can affect joint movement, increase muscle tension, and irritate surrounding structures that may contribute to headaches.
Poor posture is another common factor, particularly for people who spend long hours working at a computer or looking down at a phone. As the head moves forward, extra strain is placed on the muscles and joints of the neck and upper back.
We also frequently care for nursing mothers whose feeding posture can place ongoing stress on the neck and shoulders, sometimes contributing to recurring headaches over time.
Our Approach to Headache Care
Your examination helps determine what may be contributing to your headaches. Chiropractic adjustments focus on improving movement in the cervical spine and reducing restrictions that may be involved in your symptoms.
Depending on your examination findings, your care may also include soft tissue therapy, cupping, or kinesiology taping to address muscle tension surrounding the neck and shoulders.
For some patients, headaches are associated with restricted movement of the cranial bones. In these cases, Dr. Megan Herrmann’s training in cranial adjusting may be incorporated into your care to address tension affecting the cranial structures alongside your chiropractic treatment.
What to Expect
Many patients notice changes early in care, sometimes after their first adjustment, although every situation is different. How quickly you respond depends on factors such as what’s contributing to your headaches and how long the problem has been present.
Some people begin with more frequent visits while an active headache pattern settles, then gradually reduce the frequency of care as they improve. If maintenance care is appropriate, we’ll discuss your options, but we’ll never pressure you into a schedule that doesn’t fit your needs or lifestyle.
